What are you all about?
Staying in touch with our passions benefits everyone but it's something we're not encouraged to do because it might make us appear selfish. But it's the exact opposite. Here's why.
Do you know what you’re all about?
Because you have to be all about something.
For example, I’m all about cappuccinos, language learning, and journaling.
I’m also passionate about:
Watching sunsets at the beach.
Music that gives you goosebumps.
Conversations with friends around the kitchen table or over coffee.
Singing to the top of my voice in my car.
The list could go on and on.
Being all about something means pursuing passions that inspire you and make you happy. You, only you.
It doesn’t have to be useful. Or productive.
In fact, the less useful it is, the better.
More importantly, that special something does have to make your heart sing. Because when that happens, the world is a better place.
When you’re all about something, you know you’re doing the right thing.
It gets easy to forget what you’re all about, though. We live busy lives and we’re under a lot of pressure to be productive and not waste time.
When was the last time you read an article about Ten Ways to make your heart sing? It’s simply not a priority in this world of ours.
Layer by layer, we often start leaving behind all those things that brought a sparkle to our eyes.
We leave what we truly love about life.
Take me. A few years ago, before I started All About Italian, I’d utterly forgotten what I was all about. There was so much to do and I felt that now I was a grown-up and do useful things.
I didn’t realize that I was miserable. When we do what the world expects of us, we seldom notice if we’re happy or not.
But the world needs you to be all about something.
Our loved ones need us to be investing in ourselves.
We all need you to be doing what you love.
Because that’s when you speak with your own voice and make the world a richer and more diverse place.
Think about someone you love. What do you wish for them? Don’t you want them to be happy doing what they enjoy?
So, it only makes sense that this applies to us as well. Our loved ones want us to be happy so why do we keep denying this to ourselves?
That’s why I created my business, All About Italian.
Our love for all things Italian helps us rediscover ourselves and our interests.
Time spent on our passions is always time well spent. After the last few years, there should be no other way to spend our time and it’s ridiculous that I even need to write about this.
Now, your turn. What are you all about?
If you struggle to find an answer, no worries, it’s normal. It just means that you’ve put yourself on the back burner and that you need to take some time to slow down and reconnect with yourself.
Learn to listen to your own voice.
Pay attention.
You’ll notice that your voice, what you’re all about, is there waiting in the background.
Bit by bit, the more you start paying attention, the stronger it will get and you can share it with the world again.
We need you to be you. Because it’s the only way to be.
In a world that constantly wants us to be something else from what we are, the most radical thing you can do is slow down and discover what you’re passionate about.
And then? Go out and do it.
So, take a minute to think this over.
